Mild quakes jolt Davao del Sur, Ilocos
MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 6.6 earthquake jolted Davao del Sur Sunday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said yesterday.
Phivolcs said a 4.5 magnitude earthquake was also reported in Laoag City at around noon yesterday.
Phivolcs said the epicenter of the Davao del Sur tremor was traced in the Molucca Sea. It was recorded at 390 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town.
It was felt at Intensity 4 in Davao City, Intensity 3 in General Santos City and Intensity 2 in Koronadal City, Tupi and Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Phivolcs said no damage was reported but aftershocks were recorded at around 5:48 a.m. yesterday, particularly around eight kilometers southeast of Cateel, Davao Oriental.
The tremor was felt at Intensity 4 in Laoag City, Badoc, Currimao, Pasuquin, Paoay and Batac in Ilocos Norte.
The earthquake that rocked Ilocos was felt at Intensity 3 in Tuguegarao City, Dingras, Solsona, Nueva Era, Burgos, Pagudpod and Sinait towns and in Bangued, Abra. It was felt at Intensity 2 in Vigan City and Magsingal, Ilocos, Norte. – Evelyn Macairan, Edith Regalado, Artemio Dumlao
