Suspect in Lucena pawnshop robbery nabbed

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines  – One of five men who robbed a pawnshop here Saturday morning was arrested at his hideout in Barangay Cotta yesterday, police said.

Calabarzon police director Chief Superintendent James Melad said Alpuerto Aguilar and his cohorts were charged with robbery before the Lucena City prosecutor’s office.

Melad said Aguilar was also tagged in recent robberies in Quezon.

Aguilar was identified through a closed-circuit television footage as among those who robbed Rocquel Pawnshop.

Senior Superintendent Valeriano de Leon, Quezon police director, said three of the suspects entered the pawnshop while two acted as lookouts.

The suspects then disarmed a security guard identified as Edgardo Abano Maquiling of his caliber .38 revolver.

The robbers, who carted away some P1 million in expensive jewelry, fled on foot. – Ed Amoroso, Michelle Zoleta
