DPWH opens Magapit Bridge in Cagayan

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – The Magapit Bridge in Cagayan, said to be Asia’s oldest bridge, is again open to traffic following nearly two months of closure to pave the way for its rehabilitation.

The 7,600-meter bridge, a vital link between Cagayan Valley, the northern Cordillera and Ilocos regions, had been closed for needed repairs since June.

Located in Lal-lo town, the Magapit Bridge, built during the Marcos administration, was originally set to be closed until November but the Department of Public Works and Highways was able to fast-track the repairs costing P100 million, half of which came from Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.
