SAN FERNANDO, La Union, Philippines – Provincial board member Henry Bacurnay has resigned effective Aug. 21 to assume the position of undersecretary for external affairs at the office of Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa in Malacañang.
Bacurnay, a close ally of President Aquino in the Liberal Party (LP), is currently the president of the Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines.
“I have set aside my plans to run (for congressman) in 2013 so we could preserve the unity in the second district (of La Union). Everyone should be ready to sacrifice personal ambition for the sake of unity in the province,” Bacurnay said.
Bacurnay delivered his last privilege speech during the provincial board’s session on Thursday, acknowledging the support extended to him by his colleagues headed by Vice Gov. Aureo Nisce.
Bacurnay, who would remain as LP chairman in La Union, also asked the provincial board members to give their full support to his wife Nancy Corazon, who replaced him as board member.
Bacurnay’s wife was chosen as his replacement based on the decision of the LP officers and members.
