Danding: Espino is unbeatable
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines – Former ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr., founding chairman emeritus of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), said here on Friday that Gov. Amado “Spines” Espino Jr. is ”unbeatable” in Pangasinan, citing the provincial leader’s impressive performance record.
Cojuangco’s statement effectively dismissed rumors that his son, former fifth district Rep. Mark Cojuangco, is eyeing the gubernatorial seat in next year’s local elections.
“Spines should continue the good work he has been doing in Pangasinan. I heard he has been really doing well,” Cojuangco said of Espino whom he described as “the best governor Pangasinan has ever had.”
Asked by if a city mayor from western Pangasinan could put up a good fight against Espino, Cojuangco hinted that the result of the polls would already be predictable.
Espino is a member of the NPC, a dominant political party in Pangasinan. A police official turned politician, he ran as congressman of Pangasinan’s second district and handily won over his closest rival. He is now in his second term as governor.
