ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines – Suspected Abu Sayyaf militants hurled a grenade at the Mt. Carmel Cathedral in Jolo Wednesday night, security officials said yesterday.
Sulu provincial commander Senior Superintendent Antonio Freyra said no one was reported hurt in the explosion along Gen. Arolas street at around 6:30 p.m.
Initial investigation showed that the suspects on a motorcycle lobbed a fragmentation grenade on the roof of the cathedral. The grenade exploded before it fell to the ground.
Freyra said they are still looking into the motive for the attack.
