BANGUED, Abra, Philippines – Abra Gov. Eustaquio Bersamin appealed yesterday to Abra mayors who have not yet yielded their licensed firearms to turn these over to the provincial police.
He assured them that the police would return the guns to them after next year’s polls.
Bersamin led local politicians the other day in turning over high-powered firearms to the provincial police, coinciding with the visit of Philippine National Police chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome.
Former Abra lawmaker Cecil Luna joined Bersamin and several mayors in turning over their guns to the police.
“Let’s turn them (firearms) over so that peace will reign especially during the elections,” Bersamin said. – With Cecille Suerte Felipe, Artemio Dumlao
