Robbers kill Sino businesswoman

- Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A Chinese businesswoman was shot dead by robbers in this city’s commercial district Monday night, authorities said.

Chief Superintendent Mario Yango, Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge, identified the victim as Miao Rong Shi, 50, who was engaged in cell phone trading and was a member of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.

Yanga said they verified Miao’s nationality with the Cebu General Council of China, a consulate office.

Police said Miao was walking along Tomas Claudio Street, a few meters away from the Jose Go Huilo building where she was staying, when three men aboard a motorcycle got near her and grabbed her bag.

Miao reportedly fought back but was shot by one of the robbers with a .45-caliber pistol in the left shoulder, Yanga said.
