Hazing case recorded at PMA

- Alexis Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Despite its no-hazing policy, the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) recorded at least one case this year, a military official said yesterday.

PMA superintendent Maj. Gen. Nonato Peralta Jr. said the lone hazing incident occured in April or May but did not cause serious injuries.

Peralta said a cadet suffered swollen hands after he was hit by a cadet, who belonged to an upper class.

“The cadet who hit his fellow cadet has been discharged. We also practice command responsibility so the company commander and the others who were with him and who could have prevented the act have been slapped with heavy punishment,” he told radio station dzBB.

Peralta said he has issued a warning against other forms of hazing that are being done secretly.
