3 quakes rock parts of Visayas
Manila, Philippines - Three earthquakes rocked several parts of the Visayas on Wednesday night but there were no reports of damage or injuries, state seismologists said yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the first tremor with magnitude of 4.9 struck at around 7:09 p.m. with its epicenter traced at three kilometers southwest of Naval, Biliran.
It was strongly felt at Intensity 5 in Naval and Calubian, Leyte; Intensity 4 in Kawayan, Almeria and Culaba, all in Biliran, and Leyte, Leyte; Intensity 2 in Palompon, Leyte and Tacloban City; and Intensity 1 in Cebu City.
The second quake with magnitude of 2.7 was located at 13 kms southeast of Kawayan, Biliran. It was felt at Intensity 2 in Kawayan and Calubian towns.
The third tremor, meanwhile, was registered at magnitude 3.4 and was traced 17 kms southwest of Guimbal, Iloilo. It was felt at Intensity 3 in Jordan and Nueva Valencia in Guimaras, and Intensity 2 in Mandurriao, Iloilo.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 5.3 earthquake rocked General Santos City at around 4:14 p.m. yesterday, Phivolcs said. The tremor was centered at 157 kms southeast of Sarangani. It was felt at Intensity 1 in General Santos City.
