Plebiscite for Ilagan cityhood set on Aug. 11

- Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

ILAGAN, Isabela, Philippines  – The plebiscite for the cityhood of this provincial capital has been set on Aug. 11.

Ilagan Mayor Josemarie Diaz said the municipal government has approved an initial P10 million funding for the political exercise.

“Now is the time for us to pursue the development aspirations for our beloved town to finally acquire cityhood status so we can transform our dreams to reality,” Diaz said during the flag-raising ceremony yesterday.

The plebiscite is the third attempt of Ilagan to become a city. The first was during the early 1970s, which was stalled with the declaration of martial law. The second attempt was in 1988 when Ilagueños rejected the conversion due to issues on increased taxation and the lack of an information campaign.
