MANILA, Philippines - At least 14 people were injured when a passenger jeep lost its brakes on a downward portion of the Sumulong Highway in Antipolo City yesterday and rammed into six vehicles, causing heavy traffic in the area.
Superintendent Rodino Elfa, Antipolo City police chief, identified those injured as Leandro Joseph Joson, 34; Queenie Rillo, 21; Frances Angela Estipona, 21; Andrew Relos, 16; Eva Ostia, 45; Dessylane Quezada, 18; Brigideta Dapitan, 39; Hazel Asuncion, 20; Vivian Regular, 53; Danica Asuncion, 19; Gil Pereones, 39; Ian Paul Patricio, 20; Nelson Trelles, 38; and Sotero Trelles, 45.
Elfa said the driver of the passenger jeepney, Florencio Villareal Jr., is under police custody as charges are being readied against him.
Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director, said the passenger jeepney was on its way to Cubao when it lost its brakes along the highway in Barangay Mambugan at around 9 a.m. yesterday.
