Comelec expands gun ban during ARMM voters' listup
MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has expanded the coverage of a gun ban in line with the general registration in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
In a resolution, the Comelec ordered the imposition of a gun ban within ARMM, comprising the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and Tawi-Tawi, as well as in Cotabato City, Zamboanga City, Isabela City, Sultan Kudarat, Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte and North Cotabato.
The general registration is set from July 9 to 18.
The Comelec said the gun ban will be enforced from July 1 to July 30, during which the carrying and transport of firearms, including airguns and airsoft guns shall be prohibited.
Those engaged in the manufacturing and transportation of firearms and explosives may seek a permit from the Philippine National Police (PNP). But the PNP will not issue new firearms license unless the firearms are deposited with the firearms and explosives division of the PNP.
