Ecology center to rise on former Bulacan dump
MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – An ecology and a climate change training center will rise on the former dump behind the Bulacan Medical Center here.
Gov. Wilhelmino Alvarado and environment officials led the groundbreaking ceremony for the center to mark the start of the celebration of Environment Month yesterday.
Rustico de Belen, head of the Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office, said the new facility is part of the provincial government’s continuing effort to preserve the environment.
“We are converting the old dump from eyesore to symbol of hope,” De Belen said.
The dump was closed a month after Alvarado assumed office in July 2010.
Alvarado and De Belen also led the distribution of eco-tricycles yesterday as part of the DENR and provincial government’s livelihood and solid waste management program and the turnover of school chairs from confiscated logs.
