Scout Ranger tagged in Bulacan massacre
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Army urged yesterday a Scout Ranger who allegedly killed two people in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan last week to surrender and air his side before the proper forum.
Army spokesman Maj. Harold Cabunoc said Pfc. Maximo Pasking should turn himself over to authorities since he is also suffering from a stab wound.
“We appeal to him to surface and defend himself to prove his claim that he acted in self-defense.,” Cabunoc said.
Pasking was accused of shooting and killing Vicente Simbugao and his wife, Melanie, after a heated argument in Palmera North Ridge Subdivision at Barangay Kaypian, San Jose del Monte last May 22.
A witness said Pasking was trying to negotiate the return of his personal firearm, allegedly a .45 caliber handgun, which was pawned without his consent by a brother-in-law to one of the victims. The father of the person who possessed Pasking’s gun reportedly cursed at and humiliated the soldier.
Pasking allegedly returned to ask for the gun but was stabbed in the foot. He reportedly retaliated and shot at his attackers. The Army has sent personnel to investigate the incident and negotiate his surrender.
Cabunoc said Pasking has been contacting one of his classmates and expressed his intention to surrender.
“He is just waiting for something. He is afraid because there is a threat to his family. He said he will surface and will surrender,” he said, citing reports by members of the Scout Rangers.
