Negros Special Election: Police, military to tackle gun ban exemptions
MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has delegated to the police and the military the task of identifying who should be exempted from the gun ban during the June 2 special poll in Negros Occidental’s second district.
The special election is intended to fill the post vacated by the late second district congressman Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo who died in London last January.
In Resolution 9431, the Comelec said applications for gun ban exemption would be evaluated and decided upon by the Provincial Joint Security Control Center (PJSCC)–Negros Occidental.
The Comelec said it finds it “more practical” to let the PJSCC do the “evaluation and approval” of applications for gun ban exemption, than its own Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Personnel.
The gun ban takes effect until June 17. The campaign period started last May 17 and would end on May 31.
