Blast-hit North Cotabato town finally has a K-9

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Kabacan town in North Cotabato, which has been rocked by 50 bomb attacks in the past three years, finally has a bomb-sniffing dog.

The Kabacan police acquired on Tuesday a Belgian Malinois trained to sniff bombs and detect hidden improvised explosives.

The K-9 will be used for security operations at Kabacan’s public terminal and public market, which have been the targets of past bombings.

Among North Cotabato’s 17 towns, Kabacan has had the most number of bombings, as it is at the crossroads of the adjoining provinces of Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat, and the cities of Cotabato, Kidapawan and Tacurong.
