Love angle eyed in NBI agent's ambush-slay

- Non Alquitran -

MANILA, Philippines - Police investigators are eyeing a “love triangle” as the motive in last Saturday’s killing of an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Antipolo City.

This developed as Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director, yesterday created a task force to speed up the solution to the ambush-slay of NBI agent lawyer Leandro Yanguas, 43.

Anduyan named Superintendent Rodino Elfa, Antipolo police chief, as task force head with the local police, the Intelligence and Investigation Unit of the Rizal police and NBI-Calabarzon as members.

Aside from the love triangle angle, the task force is also looking into several cases handled by Yanguas, who was assigned to the NBI-Batangas office.

The task force will question Mariel Almario, 26, and other women linked to the slain NBI agent to determine whether they knew someone who had a grudge against him.

Yanguas was with Almario aboard a Toyota Fortuner when three men gunned him down in front of his home in Barangay Mayamot, Antipolo at around 3 p.m. Saturday. Almario rushed Yanguas to the hospital but doctors failed to revive him.
