DAVAO CITY, Philippines – President Aquino presented awards to at least six local government units (LGUs) for the exemplary implementation of the Mindanao Rural Development Program’s Community Fund for Agricultural Development (MRDP-CFAD) in ceremonies at the Grand Regal Hotel Davao here yesterday.
“The MRDP has shown it has succeeded in mobilizing communities for agricultural development in Mindanao. It has successfully established through its various projects farm-to-market roads, bridges, water systems and solar dryers as well as other agri-fishery infrastructure in the rural areas,” the President said, adding that MRDP has contributed much in the country’s campaign to attain “freedom from hunger.”
Aquino said the MRDP has helped in providing food for communities, especially in the rural areas.
Mati City in Davao Oriental was adjudged as the best LGU implementing the MRDP-CFAD program. Mayor Michelle Rabat accepted the award, which came with a P2.5 million additional funding for rural development in the area.
Silay, Misamis Oriental was named best performing LGU in the implementation of rural infrastructure; Nasipit, Agusan del Norte for natural resources and agro-forestry management; Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat for mangrove rehabilitation and management; and Roseller Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay for fish sanctuary management.
