Post-harvest facilities should be ready by December - DA

MANILA, Philippines - Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alacala has ordered his regional directors to complete the construction of post-harvest facilities in their respective areas in time for the third palay harvesting season in December.  

Alcala did not give the exact amount for the project but said it runs to over P1 billion.

“With these facilities, we expect a very limited if not a zero wastage in our grains by next year since palays will no longer rot in the storage areas. Farmers will have wide spaces to dry their palays,” he said.

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) is working with the DA to attain a surplus in rice harvests this year.
