2.7 quake hits Negros Oriental

MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 2.7 earthquake rocked Negros Oriental yesterday but no damage was reported, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at around 4:43 a.m. and was centered 18 kilometers southwest of Tayasan, Negros Oriental, where it was felt at Intensity 2.

The quake had a depth of 27 kms and was tectonic in origin. Tectonic pertains to the movement of the earth’s crust. 

Last Feb. 6, a magnitude 6.9 quake hit Negros Oriental, leaving over 50 people dead.

Meanwhile, an earthquake with magnitude of 3.2 struck Cagayan before noon yesterday, but Phivolcs said it was unfelt.

The quake was recorded at around 11:09 a.m. with its epicenter traced at 18 kms southwest of Sanchez Mira, Cagayan.
