Bacolod City, Philippines – A town mayor endorsed by the Liberal Party to run in the special election to fill the post vacated by the late congressman Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo got the endorsement of the biggest alliance of political parties in Negros Occidental.
Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol was chosen by the United Negros Alliance (UNA) during its caucus Saturday as its official candidate for the June 2 special poll, according to Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (fourth district, Negros Occidental).
UNA is the biggest coalition of major political parties in the province and is composed of majority of incumbent officials.
The caucus was presided over by UNA chairman Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., a known supporter of President Aquino.
