MANILA, Philippines - The P60-billion Light Rail Transit Line 1 that will be extended up to Bacoor in Cavite province is expected to be completed a year before he finishes his six-year term in 2016, President Aquino said yesterday.
“If I have not ridden on it by 2015, I will be very severely disappointed,” he told businessmen who attended the Philippine Investment Forum at the Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City.
Aquino expressed full confidence in Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas in making the LRT Line 1 extension “operational at the soonest possible time.”
Aquino is also hopeful that his administration will be able to extend the LRT line to southern Luzon, specifically to the Calabarzon area, comprising Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.
The Bacoor LRT is one of the 13 projects costing a total of P133 billion that Aquino approved upon the recommendation of the National Economic and Development Authority.
Bidding for the Bacoor LRT “will begin very soon,” presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said.
