MANILA, Philippines - The proponent of an environment-friendly engineered sanitary landfill in Obando, Bulacan welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) to revert the case concerning the development of a garbage dump in the province to the Court of Appeals (CA).
In a statement, Ecoshield Development Corp. said the SC’s Feb. 27 decision referred the case to the CA and also ordered the respondents to submit their comments within 10 days from receiving the order.
Ecoshield officials said the case was reportedly an offshoot of a group whose business interest is threatened once the engineered sanitary landfill, the first in Central Luzon, begins operation.
“With the CA hearing on the case, the full import of the establishment of the sanitary landfill in Salambao, Obando, Bulacan, will be ventilated and thereby show the environmental safeguards that have been incorporated in the said landfill,” they said.
Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino Sy Alvarado said the proposed landfill will serve as a model garbage dump in the country.
