ILAGAN, Isabela ,Philippines – Childhood friends, acquaintances and town mates bade farewell to 25-year-old hazing victim Marvin Reglos, who was buried at the town cemetery here yesterday.
Isabela Gov. Faustino Dy III, Burgos Mayor Ruben Tegui and officials of the San Beda College also attended the funeral.
“Sayang, we lost a future lawyer of Burgos,” Rachelle Baysa, 24, a village mate of Reglos, said.
She said almost everybody in Barangay Calaguian knew Reglos because he was friendly to everyone.
Residents of Burgos town have initiated a signature campaign to press for an impartial investigation of Reglos’ death, even though the Antipolo City prosecutor’s office had filed charges for murder in relation to Republic Act 8049 or the anti-hazing law against 10 members of the San Beda Law School’s Lambda Rho Beta fraternity led by Grand Rhoan Eduardo Escobal.
A radio news editorial aired over Cagayan Valley expressed disgust over Reglos’ death, saying it was ironic that future lawyers, who should uphold the law, have violated it.
