Seaman who killed fiancée, mom yields
SOLANO, Nueva Vizcaya ,Philippines – A seaman tagged in last Saturday’s fatal stabbing of his fiancée and her mother out of anger due to his girlfriend’s alleged infidelity gave himself up to authorities later that night, police said yesterday.
Chief Inspector Alberto Bagarra, this town’s police director, said the suspect, Abe Estacio, has been turned over to the police in Alicia town where the killing took place last Saturday afternoon.
“Actually, we already received information that he was hiding in a resort. We were already about to arrest him when he personally gave himself in,” said Bagarra, adding that Estacio was accompanied by relatives when he surrendered.
Estacio allegedly stabbed dead his fiancée Catherine Galamay, 25, and her mother, Liza, 41, at the height of a verbal tussle at the victims’ residence in Barangay Paddad, Alicia town.
Bagarra quoted Estacio as claiming self-defense when Catherine’s father allegedly attempted to hit him with a hard object, forcing him to take the victims as human shields.
