MANILA, Philippines - Two mild tremors rocked parts of the Visayas yesterday, but no damage or injuries were reported, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the quakes with magnitude of 2.2 and 3.3 occurred at 12:49 a.m. and 1:05 p.m., respectively.
Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the first tremor was located 11 kilometers southwest of Canlaon, Negros Oriental, the same source of the magnitude 6.9 quake that rocked the area last Feb. 6,killing over 50 people. It was felt at Intensity 2 in Guihulngan town.
Phivolcs officials warned that aftershocks are still expected in Negros in the next several weeks because the Feb. 6 quake was strong.
Meanwhile, the epicenter of the second quake was traced at 15 kms northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar.
It was felt at Intensity 3 in Borongan and Sulat towns in Eastern Samar, and Intensity 2 in San Policarpio, Eastern Samar and Tacloban City.
