SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines – There were tears and anguish as grieving relatives of law student Marvin Reglos awaited the arrival of his remains in his hometown of Burgos in Isabela yesterday.
Reglos’ body was transported aboard the municipal ambulance from Metro Manila to the remote farming village of Caliguian.
Reglos, 25, a freshman law student at San Beda College in Manila, died in hazing rites of the Lambda Rho Beta fraternity in Antipolo City last Sunday. At the time of his death, he was also a teacher of La Salette of Roxas.
Meanwhile, the municipal council of Burgos town sought the assistance of President Aquino, through Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, for a speedy investigation and prosecution of those involved in Reglos’ death.
Police have filed murder charges in relating to the anti-hazing law against fraternity members Eric Castillo, 28; Bodgie Yap, 24; Arjay Gregana, Jufali Abdula and 11 others for Reglos’ death. Only Castillo and Yap are in police custody.
De Lima said she hopes for more cooperation from the fraternity as she met Grand Rhoan Mike Escobal at the National Bureau of Investigation yesterday. – With Sandy Araneta
