More aftershocks hit parts of the Visayas
MANILA, Philippines - State seismologists yesterday continued to record aftershocks in parts of the Visayas, nearly two weeks after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit the region.
The aftershocks with magnitude of 2.6, 3.3, 3.7, and 2.9 occurred at 9:24 a.m., 9:25 a.m., 10:35 a.m. and 12:47 p.m., respectively, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
The epicenter of the first tremor was traced some eight kilometers northeast of Albuera, Leyte. It was felt at Intensity 2 in Burauen and Albuera towns.
The second quake was located seven kms southwest of Burauen. It was felt at Intensity 2 in Burauen and Albuera.
Another quake was recorded at 10:35 a.m. and was centered 11 kms southeast of Mabinay, Negros Oriental. It was felt at Intensity 3 in Tayasan, Negros Oriental and Intensity 1 in Iloilo City.
The fourth quake was located 36 kms southeast of Sipalay, Negros Occidental, where it was felt at Intensity 2.
A magnitude 6.9 quake rocked Negros Oriental last Feb. 6, leaving at least 51 people dead and over 60 others missing.
