Ambushed Nueva Ecija mayor dies
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – The town mayor of Nueva Ecija who was seriously wounded in an ambush last Saturday died at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City the other day.
In a report, Senior Superintendent Roberto Alligayu, Nueva Ecija police director, said Carranglan Mayor Restituto Abad died on Wednesday at the hospital due to gunshot wounds in the left armpit, left cheek, and left arm.
Abad and his wife were on their way to attend a meeting at a freemasons’ lodge in Guimba town when his Ford Everest was peppered with bullets. The couple’s driver was wounded in the attack.
A suspect, Jose Berlino Gonzales, 49, was arrested. The alleged triggerman, Jonathan Carpio, is being hunted down.
