Knights officer dies in mishap
VIGAN CITY, Philippines – Tragedy marred the regional conference of the Knights of Rizal here Saturday when a speeding vehicle hit one of its local leaders while on his way home from the assembly, police said.
Teodelio Salvador, 48, an officer of the Knights’ Caoayan chapter and eldest son of former Ilocos Sur board member Teodoro Salvador, had just come from the regional conference attended by construction magnate Reghis Romero, Knights supreme commander, when he met the accident.
Investigation showed that Salvador, who was connected with the provincial assessor’s office, was cruising a road near the municipal cemetery in nearby Caoayan town, about two kilometers southeast of Vigan, on board a bicycle when the car hit him from behind.
He was declared dead on arrival at the Ilocos Sur Doctors’ Polyclinic and Hospital, as he sustained multiple injuries in the head, arms, and other parts of the body.
The car driver, Jesus Follentes Jr., of Sta. Lucia town, was arrested by responding policemen.
