Gov't to create new water body

- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

MANILA, Philippines - The Aquino administration is creating the National Water Resource Management Council (NWRMC) to replace the National Water Resources Board (NWRB).

Guillermo Tabios III, a professor at the University of the Philippines’ College of Engineering, yesterday said President Aquino is expected to issue an executive order in May creating the NWRMC.

He said the agency will be chaired by the President and will be headed by an executive director with the rank of secretary.

The NWRB, which is under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, is the government coordinating and regulatory agency for all water resources development and management activities in the country.

Tabios was one of the resource persons during a roundtable discussion on “Water Rights, Water Wrong” organized by the National Academy of Science and Technology of the Department of Science and Technology at the Hyatt Hotel in Manila.
