2 quakes rock parts of S. Luzon
MANILA, Philippines - Two tectonic earthquakes rocked parts of Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, yesterday but there was no report of damage or injuries, state seismologists said.
Renato Solidum, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), said the tremors measuring magnitude 3.1 and 5.4 struck at around 1:26 a.m. and 12:27 p.m., respectively.
The epicenter of the magnitude 5.4 quake was located 31 kilometers southwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, Solidum said.
The quake was felt at Intensity 4 in Batangas City, Calapan City, Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro, and Paluan in Occidental Mindoro.
It was felt at Intensity 3 in Mogpog, Marinduque and Pasig City and Intensity 2 in Lucban, Quezon, and in the cities of Pasay, Muntinlupa, Makati and Quezon.
The magnitude 3.1 tremor was centered seven kms southeast of Sta. Cruz, Laguna where it was felt at Intensity 2. It was also felt at Intensity 2 in Nagcarlan, Laguna and Lucban, Quezon.
