BACOLOD CITY ,Philippines – A former overseas Filipino worker jumped off a ship to save her daughter who fell into the sea off Bacolod and Talisay cities on Friday, but neither of them survived.
Philippine Coast Guard-Bacolod chief Lt. Commander Dominador Senador yesterday identified the casualties as Michelle Tiamsing, 30, and her daughter Joemcelle, 2, residents of Barangay 1 Poblacion in Ilog town, Negros Occidental.
Reports said that the victims were on board M/V St. Joseph the Worker bound for Manila when the incident happened. A 17-year-old witness, whose name was not disclosed, told the police that she saw Tiamsing carrying the child in her arms near the edge of the vessel before the accident.
