4 robbers slain in shootout

MANILA, Philippines - Two members of the Rico Latag robbery gang in Sariaya, Quezon were killed in a shootout with police Saturday dawn.

PO2 Alnor Tagara identified one of the slain suspects as Hill Dave Villareal , 28, married and resident of Barangay Punta 1, Tanza, Cavite.

A team led by Superintendent Hansel Marantan and Superintendent Laudemir Llaneta chanced upon the suspects while riding in tandem on a motorcycle without plate number.

A shootout ensued as the suspects fired on the police operatives when they were asked to alight from their vehicle.

Meanwhile, two armed men believed to be responsible for robbing several gas stations were also killed in a gunfight with police along Barangay Paciano Rizal in Calamba City yesterday morning.

Police Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, Laguna police director, said that prior to the shootout, the two unidentified suspects robbed a gas station in Barangay 3.

Cruz said the suspects opened fire at policemen who sighted them following the robbery, triggering a 15-minute firefight.
