- Manny Galvez -

PALAYAN CITY, Philippines – Twenty-eight local government units in Nueva Ecija, including the provincial government, have been conferred the Seal of Good Housekeeping by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) which rewards LGUs for good governance and transparency.

Abraham Pascua, DILG provincial director, said the provincial government was cited for showing excellent performance in the areas of planning, budgeting, revenue mobilization, financial management, budget execution, and resource mobilization.

Pascua said the provincial government, under the leadership of Gov. Aurelio Umali, also exercised good governance in practically all aspects of public service.

Aside from the provincial government, the other recipients are the cities of Cabanatuan, Muñoz, Palayan and San Jose and the municipalities of Aliaga, Cabiao, Carranglan, Cuyapo, Gabaldon, Gen. Natividad, Guimba, Jaen, Laur, Llanera, Nampicuan, Penaranda, Rizal, San Antonio, San Leonardo, Sta. Rosa, Talavera, Talugtug, and Zaragoza.

DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo conferred the Seal of Good Housekeeping during the recent regional partnership workshop on localizing and converging good governance and poverty alleviation.

The Seal of Good Housekeeping is a program that institutionalizes the DILG’s commitment to aggressively scale up interventions to boost governance that values transparency, accountability, participation, and performance.

The winning Nueva Ecija city and municipal LGUs will receive P3 million and P1 million each, respectively, as performance challenge fund, a financial incentive given to qualified LGUs whose local development projects are aligned with the national programs for the attainment of Millennium Development Goals, tourism and local economic development, disaster risk reduction and management, and solid waste management.
