Bacoor town forges partnership with Guam government

MANILA, Philippines - In a move to further strengthen their economic, tourism and communication ties, the government of Guam and the local government of Bacoor, Cavite recently entered into a people-to-people partnership/sisterhood agreement.

The signing of the agreement was held last Oct. 25 at the New World Hotel in Makati City with Mayor Strike Revilla, League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) national president, representing the people of Bacoor, and Governor Eddie Baza Calvo, for the people of Guam. 

Bacoor, a lone congressional district of Cavite, is an important gateway to Metro Manila. It is a first-class urban municipality with a population of 441,197 (2007 Census of Population conducted by the National Statistics Office), making it the most populous municipality in the Philippines.

Its local government earlier had forged twinning and sisterhood ties with other government units, both locally and internationally.

These agreements aim to open bridges for free exchange in local government administration, technical and educational exchange, economic and business partnerships, tourism promotion, and advancements of information and communication technologies that will benefit both partners and constituents.

The Guam government, for its part, is eager to forge greater friendship and cooperation to further strengthen its historical, cultural, and economic ties. This United States territory is located in the Western Pacific Ocean, and lists tourism as its principal industry.    

Calvo expressed the Guam government’s support to this new partnership and invited Revilla and his wife to visit Guam soon. For his part, Revilla, in his speech, thanked the Guam government for paving the way for bigger and better opportunities for Bacoor.

Witnessing the ceremonial event were Bacoor Councilors Edwin Gawaran, Jaime Sapanghila, Rey Fabian, Rey Palabrica, lawyer Venus de Castro, Bayani de Leon and Jainy San Miguel, and chief of staff Franklin Arriola and communication officer Troy Torres of the government of Guam.
