Coast Guard suspends Cagayan sea transport

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – The Coast Guard yesterday suspended all modes of sea transport in Cagayan amid continuous rains.

Affected by the suspension included trips to and from the Isabela coastal towns of Maconacon and Divilacan as well as Camiguin and Calayan islands in Cagayan.

The Coast Guard office in Aparri, Cagayan cautioned fishermen against venturing into the sea due to the inclement weather.

Authorities also advised residents of coastal villages in northern and eastern Cagayan and the Pacific coast of Isabela as well as those living along riverbanks and mountainsides to evacuate to avoid strong waves and possible floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, the water level of Magat Dam along the Isabela-Ifugao border has again neared the spilling level, prompting authorities to resume releasing water from its reservoir. – Charlie Lagasca, Raymund Catindig
