Migratory birds flock to Bataan town

- Ric Sapnu, -

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga ,Philippines  – Various species of migratory birds, escaping the cold weather in Europe and other parts of the world, were spotted in Abucay, Bataan.

Residents there said they saw a number of white-winged tern in a drying fishpond along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Mabatang.

They said the bird is locally known as “kanaway.”

Thousands of migratory birds flock to dry fishponds and the wetlands of Abucay from October to March every year.

The Department of Tourism declared Abucay as a bird watching site a few years ago.

The first International Bird Festival in the Philippines was held in Balanga City in 2009. From then on, the city has conducted annual bird festivals.
