DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The circulation manager of a newspaper in General Santos City was gunned down yesterday morning, authorities said.
The victim, Alfredo Velarde Jr., 43 circulation manager of the Brigada publication which is sold in South Cotabato and nearby provinces, was reportedly shot right in front of the paper’s office along Mahogany Street in General Santos City at around 4:30 a.m. yesterday.
Velarde was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
He reportedly came all the way from Digos City in Davao del Sur when he was attacked by the gunmen who were riding a motorcycle.
