9 cargo ship's crewmen rescued off Calapan

CALAPAN CITY, Philippines – Rescue teams of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and local fishermen rescued on Saturday morning nine passengers of a cargo vessel that sank off Naujan town in Oriental Mindoro.

Those rescued were all crewmembers of M/V Arayat which capsized at around 4 p.m. Friday. They were all declared safe after the PCG found them being helped by fishermen in Barangay Silonay this city the following morning.

Reports said the vessel, carrying 50 sacks of pebbles and 1,500 sacks of rock salt and which had come from Bulalacao town, encountered rough seas in Dumali Point off Naujan.
