CHED orders P'panga college to stop offering 6 courses
MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has ordered a college in San Fernando City, Pampanga to discontinue offering six courses found not to be complying with its curriculum and other standards.
In a notice to the public, lawyer Julito Vitriolo, CHED executive director, announced the closure of the Harvardian Colleges’ Bachelor of Science in Education, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Bachelor of Arts Political Science, BA English, BS in Commerce, Accounting, Management, Finance, and Master of Education (MA) in Administration, Supervision, Guidance and Counseling.
The closure of the school’s six academic programs was ordered in view of “its gross and serious violations and continuous defiance by the institution of CHED policies, standards and guidelines,” the notice stated.
The closure order, according to CHED, was served to Harvardian Colleges last Oct. 25.
CHED advised the affected students to coordinate with its Region 3 office at (045) 455-1662 for efficient transfer to other CHED-recognized and compliant institutions.
CHED said no new students shall be admitted by the college starting the second semester of academic year 2011-2012.
“However, those students who have completed the academic course requirements, and are certified to by the school registrar as having completed all the requirements of the course enrolled in prior to the issuance of the closure order, may still be conferred a degree by the school,” CHED said.
Dr. Patricia Licuanan, CHED chairperson, earlier said the commission was serious in its bid to close schools offering sub-standard programs and was zeroing in on schools whose graduates fail miserably in professional licensure exams administered by the Professional Regulation Commission.
