'Tap water in Legazpi City unsafe'
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – The city government here warned residents not to drink water supplied by Philippine Hydro, Inc. (PhilHydro) to the Legazpi City Water District (LCWD), saying it is not potable.
Mayor Geraldine Rosal issued the warning citing an analysis of the water samples in the city by the University of the Philippines Science Research Institute.
“Now we have a conclusive proof that the water coming from our faucets are not safe to drink,” said Rosal who had ordered the city council not to renew the permit issued to PhilHydro.
Residents have complained to the city government since December last year on the rising water cost and deterioration in the quality of water supplied by LCWD.
“This kind of water is not even good to wash your clothes because it does not produce soap suds,” said city Councilor Rolly Rosal who supervised the various hearings conducted by the Sangguniang Panglunsod.
