Basilan gov's brother killed in ambush

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A village chairwoman and her husband, who was the younger brother of Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar, were killed in an ambush in Isabela City, Basilan Monday night.

The victims were identified as engineer Basser Jainuddin, a younger brother of Akbar who was assigned with the Basilan provincial engineering office, and his wife Hadja Amina Jainuddin, barangay captain of Sumagdang in Isabela City.

Lt. Col. Randolf Cabangbang, spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command said the victims were riding a motorcycle on their way home from Isabela City proper when the suspects, riding in tandem on a black motorcycle, shot them in front of Basilan State College around 8 p.m.

Jainuddin died on the spot while his wife expired while being rushed to Infante Hospital. Both victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Superintendent Allan Nazaro, Isabela City police chief said the motive of the ambush is still being determined.
