Midwife kidnap victim flown to Manila hospital
MANILA, Philippines - A midwife, who was rescued by joint security forces from her Abu Sayyaf kidnappers last Thursday was flown to Manila yesterday morning for psychological and psychiatric debriefing.
Evangeline Taverisma, 57, is confined at a government-run hospital, according to Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao regional health secretary Dr. Kadil Sinolinding.
He said Taverisma could be suffering from trauma as a result of her more than two months in captivity, although she looks healthy.
“We have to help her, She’s not talking yet of her ordeal and she has to undergo psychological and psychiatric debriefing so that when she returns to her family, we are sure that she’s really well,” he said.
Sinolinding accompanied Taverisma to Manila after her temporary stay in Zamboanga City.
