- Ramil Bajo -

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines – Environment and town officials recently released 229 turtle hatchlings in the coastal waters of Glan and Kiamba towns in Sarangani.

Mila Locsin, chief of the regional public affairs division of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Central Mindanao, told The STAR yesterday that the 229 hatchlings are Hawkbill and Olive Ridley sea turtles.

Locsin said Sarangani OIC provincial environment and natural resources officer Eduardo Saladero awarded token of appreciations to two villagers who discovered the turtle nests and notified authorities about it.

“It showed that the residents living along coastal areas are now aware about the importance of protecting and conserving sea turtles,” Locsin quoting Saladero said.
