LGUs mark 20 years anniversary
MANILA, Philippines - Local government units (LGUs) nationwide will mark the 20th anniversary of the Local Government Code next month with simultaneous activities to highlight the gains and milestones in local governance, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo said yesterday.
With its theme “Local Government Code: 20 Years of Gains Towards A Meaningful Autonomy,” Robredo said the celebration reflects on the two decades of accomplishments made possible by the Code, as well as the continuing challenges in local governance.
He said celebration kicks off with a bike run dubbed “Filipinos in Motion: Bicycle Revolution” on Oct. 9 at the Quezon City Memorial Park. On Oct. 10, a local governance policy forum, entitled “Pagsulyap sa Maunlad na Hinaharap,” will be held at the PICC in Pasay City.
On Oct. 11, President Aquino III is expected to deliver his “Tugon ng Pangulo sa Pamahalaang Lokal” which shall embody his response to the local governments’ key issues and actions.
“At the core of this celebration are the LGUs and their continuing journey towards good governance under the Department’s overarching theme of Biyaheng Pinoy: Tapat na Palakad, Bayang Maunlad,” said Robredo.
