Coast Guard probes oil spill in Cebu

- Evelyn Macairan -

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is investigating an oil spill spotted near the Osmeña Pier in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu.

PCG spokesman Lt. Commander Algier Ricafrente yesterday said they wanted to know who was responsible for the oil spill, which was reportedly drifting toward the First Mactan-Mandaue Bridge.

In a statement, the PCG said it has dispatched its Marine Environment Protection Unit and divers from its Special Operations Unit to clean up the oil spill.

The PCG personnel have so far recovered 110 liters of the oily mixture, which is estimated to be around 210 liters.
