MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) has given the go-signal for the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to proceed with the recall elections in Samar.
In a two-page resolution signed by SC clerk of court Enriquetta Vidal, the high court junked the petition of Samar Gov. Sharee Ann Tan and brother Vice Gov. Stephen James Tan to stop the poll body from continuing with the recall proceedings.
The two top Samar officials questioned before the SC two Comelec resolutions issued on Jan. 12 and Aug. 5, which found the recall petitions as sufficient in form and substance.
The SC affirmed the Comelec ruling, saying the poll body did not abuse its discretion in allowing the recall elections and that the decision was in accordance with facts, law and jurisprudence.
The recall petitions were filed against the Tans, amid allegations that they were not fit to lead the province and that they were only following the orders of their mother, former governor, now Samar Rep. Milagros Tan.
