Toddler killed in Bukidnon tornado

MANILA, Philippines -  A one-year-old boy was killed while four others were injured in a tornado that hit Valencia City in Bukidnon last Saturday.

In its report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the tornado occurred at around 4:30 p.m. and affected Barangays Batangan, Kahaponan and Tongantongan.

The boy identified as James Alumin of Barangay Batangan was killed during the incident. Those injured were identified as Mary Grace Alumin, 22; Gogelyn Versaga, 15; Sinisa Versaga, 48; and Elton Galsin, 23 all residents of Barangay Batangan. 

“The sudden occurrence of strong twisting winds devastated a total of 39 houses along its path,” NDRRMC said.

A total of 40 families or 152 persons have been displaced by the tornado and were forced to go to the houses of their relatives and friends.

NDRRMC Executive Director Benito Ramos said local disaster management officials are now discussing measures to assist affected residents.
